Sable Falls

Located about 1.0 mile west of Grand Marais on Alger County Road H-58. Sable Falls tumbles 75 feet over a cascading slope of Munising and Jacobsville sandstone formations on its way to Lake Superior. The best viewing is from the bottom of a long staircase of 168 steps. The trail from the parking area to this staircase is a short one.

The Log Slide

The Log Slide area is located approximately 7 miles west of Grand Marais on Alger County Road H-58, and then 1.0 mile north on Log Slide Road to the parking lot. A short walk from the parking lot past historic logging equipment leads to the Log Slide area on top of the dunes.

Pictured Rocks offers towering multicolored sandstone cliffs, miles of sparkling beaches, dashing waterfalls, huge sand dunes, inland lakes and streams, deep green forests... and it's all yours to explore! Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is managed by the National Park Service, and it was the first of the nation's four national lakeshores to be established (in 1966).
